Stand Alone or Series: First book in a planned trilogy
How did I get this book: Public Library
Format: Print
Summary
Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She was wrong.
Review
I am just going to go through what I liked and didn't like about this book.
RIGHT:The characters!
Mara Dyer: Mara is not my favorite protagonist. A lot of times Mara's inability to actually pursue what was actually going on with her was very annoying. I totally understand the struggle of somebody with PTSD but for the story, she seemed too dependent on others.
Noah Shaw: Noah was my favorite character in this book. I love how different Noah is, when he wants something he will try his hardest to get it.And he's a reader!! He was a big reason why I loved this book.
The Dyer family: Unlike a lot of YA novels, Mara's family was a really big part of this story. The siblings had a really great bond which you don't see much and I really loved that.
RIGHT:Writing style!
My favorite thing about this book was the dialogue.I laughed out loud countless times while reading this book which I rarely do while reading any book. The dialogue was charming, witty, exciting and funny. And it made me love the characters even more.
RIGHT:Pacing!
The pacing of this book was awesome.Even though Hodkin provided a lot of description,I flew through the book and before I knew it,I was finished.
WRONG:Theme
I didn't take much away from this book which is something that I really look foward to when starting a book.
