Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Stand alone or series:First book in a planned Trilogy
How did I get this book:I bought this book at Half Price Books
Format:Print

Summary
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Review

 Right:The Writing

Mafi's writing was just so beautiful and I really loved how in the book there were lines that were crossed out as if this book was actually Juliette's notebook.Which I think was a really great way to get inside Juliette's head.

      RIGHT:The Characters
Juliette has became one of my favorite main protagonists. Even though she is whiny at times, I instantly fell in love with her character. I really liked Adam, Kenji and James' characters also.

     RIGHT:The world building
I love how Mafi didn't just thrust her readers into a new world and expect them to learn the ropes on their own,she eased you into the world along with Juliette and I found that really refreshing

WRONG:Too convenient

Adam-the only guy Juliette knows and the love interest (again, how convenient)-can touch her. And she loves him and he loves her. Nobody can touch Juliette except Adam. Now don't try to tell me that it was just so convenient. I actually don't mind that Adam can touch her, it's just the fact that it was never explained.

WRONG:The Plot

The plot itself was just....scattered. I mean the escape (doesn't really count as a spoiler because it happens 1/5 into the book. 1/5.Come on. 1/15.Really now? I couldn't really tell if the rest of the book was really necessary. I feel like this book could have been 450 pages instead of 300. I just think the beginning of the book needed a lot more explaining. A lot more development.
